DocuSign pricing, explained
DocuSign’s pricing is genuinely confusing — per-seat plans, envelope allowances, annual vs monthly billing, and add-ons. Here’s the plain version, so you can decide with open eyes.
The plans (approximately)
Personal — ~$10/user/month
For a single user. ~5 envelopes a month. Fine if you sign a handful of documents and never more.
Standard — ~$25/user/month
The most common small-business plan. ~100 envelopes per user per year. Adds reminders, branding, and basic workflows.
Business Pro — ~$40/user/month
Adds bulk send, advanced fields, and integrations. This is where teams usually land once they outgrow Standard.
Enterprise — custom
SSO, compliance tooling, negotiated envelopes. If you're reading a pricing explainer, this probably isn't you.
Prices shift with annual vs monthly billing and region — treat these as directional. Always check docusign.com before buying.
The three catches nobody mentions up front
1. Envelopes, not documents
An 'envelope' is a sending transaction, and limits are per user per year on most plans. Send one contract to three people in separate envelopes and that's three envelopes. The counting is the product.
2. Per-seat math
Every plan is priced per user. Two people sending? Double the price. For a solo operator this doesn't matter — for a two-person shop it does.
3. The annual lock-in
The advertised prices are almost always annual, paid up front. Monthly billing costs meaningfully more.
What does a freelancer actually need?
If you send a few contracts a month, you need: a link your client can sign without an account, proof it happened, and a price you can state in one sentence. That’s DoneDocs: $10/month flat, 500 sends — no seats, no envelope counting, no annual lock-in. Free for 3 documents a month if you want to try it first.
